What 9K gold is worth and how dealers price it

9K is 37.5% gold and is the most common karat in the UK and Ireland. With more alloy than gold it is durable and affordable, but its melt value per gram is well under half the spot price.

Look for the hallmark 375 or 9K. 9K is typical of British and Irish everyday jewellery. 9K often has a paler colour and can tarnish slightly; neither affects melt value, which depends only on weight and fineness.

Dealers weigh the piece, deduct stones and non-gold parts, and multiply the net weight by 0.375 to get the fine gold content. They then multiply by the USD spot price per gram and apply their payout percentage — usually 60–75% of melt at shops and pawnbrokers, 80–90% at specialist buyers.

One gram of 9K contains 0.3750 g of pure metal, so its melt value is 37.5% of the live spot price per gram shown in the calculator above. A dealer then pays a percentage of that melt value.

How do I calculate the scrap value of 9K?

Weigh the item in grams, subtract stones and non-precious parts, multiply the net weight by 0.375 to get the fine metal content, multiply that by today's USD spot price per gram, then multiply by the dealer's payout percentage.

What hallmark does 9K carry?

Look for 375 or 9K. In the EU the millesimal number is the usual mark. Unmarked pieces should be acid- or XRF-tested before any price is agreed.

What payout percentage is fair?
