Frequently asked questions

How is scrap gold value calculated?

Net weight in grams is multiplied by the fineness of the alloy to get pure gold content, that figure is multiplied by the live spot price per gram, and the dealer then pays an agreed percentage of this melt value.

What percentage of melt value do gold buyers pay?

High-street jewellers and pawnbrokers typically pay 60–75% of melt, specialist scrap buyers 80–90%, and refiners handling larger lots over 90% less a refining fee.

Do stones and clasps count towards the weight?

No. Stones, springs, base-metal clasps and watch pins are deducted before weighing. Only the precious metal is paid for, so a stone-set ring weighs more than its gold content suggests.

Which currencies and metals are supported?

Gold, silver, platinum and palladium in EUR, USD, GBP, CHF, PLN, SEK, DKK, NOK, CZK and HUF, with live spot prices from MetalflowAPI.

Is the calculated price what I will actually be paid?

It is an indicative figure. Real offers depend on the buyer's margin, testing results, lot size and market volatility on the day, so always compare two or three quotes.
