What 9K gold is worth and how dealers price it
9K is 37.5% gold and is the most common karat in the UK and Ireland. With more alloy than gold it is durable and affordable, but its melt value per gram is well under half the spot price.
Look for the hallmark 375 or 9K. 9K is typical of British and Irish everyday jewellery. 9K often has a paler colour and can tarnish slightly; neither affects melt value, which depends only on weight and fineness.
Dealers weigh the piece, deduct stones and non-gold parts, and multiply the net weight by 0.375 to get the fine gold content. They then multiply by the HUF spot price per gram and apply their payout percentage — usually 60–75% of melt at shops and pawnbrokers, 80–90% at specialist buyers.
